It's a new year and with it comes an opportunity to commit to making better decisions for our health and well-being.
We created a short guide to all good things and better living this year!
Re-unite with Nature
Being in natural environments, such as parks or forests, has been shown to lower cortisol levels and reduce stress, improve creativity and cognitive. This is not surprising, after all, we are part of nature ourselves! Evolutionary theory suggests that natural environments can effectively reducing levels of stress as they offer specific attributes that our species viewed as having inherent survival qualities, such as water and spatial openness. Spending time in nature may positively impact the immune system, breathing in fresh air and being exposed to sunlight, which is a natural source of vitamin D.
Mind - Body Connections
Take a more holistic approach to health, addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying causes of illness or imbalance. Consider yourself as a person in entirety taking into account the mind, body, and spirit. Mind-body practices, such as meditation, deep breathing, yoga, distance running and even lifting weights can help achieve this balance. There is always a psychosomatic connection - the mind and body are interconnected, and psychological factors can influence physical health and wellness.
Cultural Healing & Community
Exploring the rich tapestry of our own cultural identity and its influence on our personal well-being can play such an important role in everyday wellness. Learning and sharing cultural customs, rituals, and practices passed down through generations can have incredibly positive health impact. Active engagement within the community, through cultural events and support groups, establishes a network of shared experiences and mutual support. Embracing and incorporating traditional cultural practices into daily life adds depth , stability and continuity to our internal journey.
Power of Connections
Intentional efforts to cultivate and strengthen meaningful relationships can have such a strong impact on our wellness. Start by prioritizing quality over quantity in your connections, nurturing close bonds with family, friends, or a supportive community. Actively engage in social activities and shared interests to foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie. Collaborating on health goals with friends or family members could be another way to  create a shared sense of accountability and motivation. Cultivate empathy, as understanding and being understood can significantly impact mental and emotional well-being.
Nourish Yourself
Nourishing yourself with good things is a fundamental act of self-care that extends beyond just the food you consume. It involves a holistic approach to well-being, encompassing not only the nutrients you feed your body, but things that you consume, apply and use. Choose foods, ingredients and products that fuel and energize your body. It's about selecting things that not only satisfy your immediate needs but also contribute to your long-term health and balance.
At Birdsong, we believe in embracing wellness and that means creating products and experiences that bring joy, calm, relief and energy and we're excited to embark on this journey with you this year!
